Batwoman spoilers: Meet Jacob Kane — Kate’s father (and enemy?)

Batwoman

As it turns out, the mythology for Kate Kane on The CW’s Batwoman is going to be very much different from the mythology linked to Bruce Wayne in the Batman comics. At least one of Kate’s parents is still alive … and he may actually be her enemy.

According to a new report coming in via TVLine, former Snatch actor Dougray Scott has been cast in the pilot of the upcoming series as Jacob Kane. What we know about him, for starters, is that he is leading a private security firm in Gotham known as The Crows. Per the official character description, he “has made it his mission to protect his city better than the Dark Knight ever could … But it’s only a matter of time before his unwavering disdain for vigilantes puts him at odds with Gotham’s new caped crusader…who also happens to be his own daughter (played by Ruby Rose).”

So basically, Jacob could be fighting his own daughter without really knowing it. There is something that is fascinating about this story from a character-development perspective, especially since it shows the complicated state of things in Gotham. It also makes you wonder why Kate wouldn’t try to find a way to figure things out and forge a bond with her father that would better keep her safe. Batwoman is meant to be a fairly dark show, though, and this could prove to be yet another example of that very thing.

In case you haven’t heard some of the other Batwoman casting news just yet, we know that Reign alum Rachel Skarsten could be playing one of the most-notable villains. Meanwhile, Teen Wolf alum Meagan Tandy is also playing an important role … one that could end up being a love interest for Kate, at least if the show follows the comics to a certain degree.

At the moment, it does feel as though we’re going to be seeing Batwoman get a series order over at The CW … though nothing is altogether a sure thing at the moment. We just know how much this network loves their Warner Bros. TV superhero shows, and we’ve got a good feeling that this is something that they are going to keep going for as long as humanly possible.
