True Detective season 3 episode 8 (finale) preview: ‘Now I’m Found’

Without knowing all that much for certain about True Detective season 3 episode 8 at present, one thing still feels clear: It’s going to be haunting. The title here is “Now I’m Found,” which seems to be a pretty clear reference to “Amazing Grace.” It’s also alluding to the end of the Purcell case and the questions that unfold as a result of that. While it may be true that the case gets tied up, there are other questions to wonder. For example, is Wayne Hays going to be able to even celebrate? Is there almost too much water under the bridge at this point? How will he handle it?

One way or another, though, we’re going to see the curtain drop on season 3 — we just hope that it happens in a way that is pretty powerful and thought-provoking. The thing about True Detective is that it’s not just about how the case unravels. Instead, it’s a little bit about what you’re left with. This is a show that is really about taking a look at the emotional aftermath to a given case and wondering how it’s going to impact the lives of these fictional characters.

Below, CarterMatt offers up the official True Detective season 3 episode 8 synopsis with some more information as to what’s coming up:

Wayne (Mahershala Ali) struggles to hold on to his memories, and his grip on reality, as the truth behind the Purcell case is finally revealed.

The best way to sum this up may just be saying to prepare for one of the best performances of Ali’s career.

Before we wrap up here, we should note that in some ways, it’s surprising that HBO would even want to end True Detective when they are, given of course the fact that the show is airing opposite the Academy Awards next week. Yet, as we’ve said on a few occasions in the past, what really matters more than anything else is weekly viewers — if the show doesn’t deliver big live viewership, we’ve got a feeling that they will be more than fine with that.

Remember that on the other side of the finale, there’s a good chance that we’re not going to see a True Detective season 4 for some time (possibly years) — and it’s not even confirmed at the moment. It’s best to cherish and enjoy this show while you actually have it.
