One of the things that we’ve said within the aftermath of George Eads’ exit is that it would be useful for actors like Billy Baldwin and Donovan to come back. Jack had a role akin to a father figure on the series and because of that, you had to think that there’d be a chance to see other characters work to take that on. (Maybe Jack wasn’t all that much of a dad to Mac, but he had a little more experience out in the field than him and looked after him — he certainly was that to Riley.)
For some more information about what sort of mission Oversight will be back for, check out the official MacGyver season 3 episode 17 synopsis below:
“Seeds + Permafrost + Feather” – MacGyver and team are asked to solve a locked-door mystery when a man working inside a remote, ultra-secure international seed vault disappears, on MACGYVER, Friday, March 8 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
There’s not much within the synopsis that necessarily dictates as to why we’re going to be seeing Mac’s dad appear here, but it does feel like this will be a fun episode. It’s almost like the show’s becoming more of a mystery for this hour, which we’re fine with because it gives the show a different flavor. It’s almost like an escape room … except instead of escaping, the person at the heart of this story disappears altogether! It’s weird, but it’s also exciting — it’s at least going to set the stage for a very interesting hour.
Hopefully, by this point the Desi character is also going to be even more ingratiated with the rest of the Phoenix Foundation team. It often takes time to acclimate a new character — we did enjoy a lot of her first episode, but chemistry cannot be built in just one episode. It takes time to really figure things out and make a character fully immersed.
