‘Shameless’ season 3 spoilers: A new teaser, and a new addition

“Shameless” may not be returning to Showtime until January 13, but why not share a little scoop now? The show has announced one of its first major additions for the new season, and it is someone who has plenty of experience making some great television.

Showtime announced on Tuesday that Bradley Whitford, best known for his parts on “The West Wing” and the short-lived “The Good Guys,” is going to be playing the part of a sophisticated gay man named Abraham who just so happens to also be a political activist. We really don’t have that much of an idea just yet as to how he fits into the world of William H. Macy, Emmy Rossum, and company just yet, but this should be one of the interesting parts of this season that we come to learn over time.

Just in case this news is not enough for you, we also have below the first teaser for the new season, which was unveiled as a part of Showtime’s new lineup consisting of “Dexter” and “Homeland,” which, in case you had not heard already, set some ratings records for the network over the weekend. Will this end up boosting the “Shameless” ratings in some shape or form? That is currently a little bit unclear, but we do know one thing at the moment: it certainly cannot hurt. We just hope that the humor, the drama, and of course some of the seediness that we have come to know from this family over the past two seasons remains intact.

What do you think about this casting, and about the new teaser?
