Death in Paradise season 8 episode 6 review: Is Florence leaving?

Death in Paradise

Going into Death in Paradise season 8 episode 6, it was clear that we could be losing at least one notable character. The question that we had to wonder here was pretty simple: Who was actually gone? Was it really Florence? That was our concern going into the episode tonight, but the end result of what we saw tonight was a little more complicated.

Instead, we ended up learning tonight that it was Patrice who didn’t make it. While Florence’s life was in danger for a big part of the episode, she ended up emerging as okay on the other side of it. Yet, there were two different murders that needed to be solved over the course of this episode — and, beyond that, there needed to be a way in which to figure out a possible murder.

One of the things that proved to be so fascinating about this episode is that despite this being a two-parter, in the end, it really felt like your standard episode, complete with a big confrontation scene featuring Jack from start to finish.

So why did the murderer in Frances choose to do some of what she did? As it turned out, money. She wanted to do everything that she could to ensure that she kept her inheritance, and that’s why she chose to have Tiana killed off. Even though Harrison was responsible for killing Tiana, he was manipulated in order to do that by Frances. Perhaps the sneakiest part of her plan was her finding a way to hide on a boat while Jack and the rest of the team were still on it! This entire murder scheme was crazy, but what was so fascinating about it was seeing how it was finally pieced together.

Also, it was Florence who decided to make the arrest — this was her way of getting justice for what happened. She wanted to say the words, and she wanted to find a way to start to move forward. Unfortunately, she also did realize that in order to do that, she was going to need to step away from the island for a little while. While Florence’s exit may or may not be permanent, she’s going to view this as an opportunity to get a little bit of peace. She, at the very least, promised that she would come back and visit.

CarterMatt Verdict

While we were certainly concerned about Florence’s future on Death in Paradise entering the episode tonight, this is not how we expected it to happen. This was a great episode, one with a number of twists … but also one that is leaving us fairly sad at the end of the day.
