The Masked Singer season 2 will have even more security

The Masked Singer

One of the biggest challenges entering The Masked Singer season 2 for Fox is a fairly simple one: How are the producers going to handle their own success?

During the first season, we know that they did everything that they could to conceal the stars’ identities. They were forced to be disguised even when they were not in their signature costumes, they couldn’t talk with the majority of the crew, and they were even picked up to take part in the gig in super-secretive fashion. When the reveals were filmed at the end of each episode, they were done in front of an especially-small group.

Despite this being such a fun show, the producers really have to create an environment here akin to Fort Knox. There’s always going to be that one person who finds joy in ruining fun things for others, and they really have to be prepared for that.

According to a new report from Deadline (via Fox’s recent TCA Winter Press Tour event), the show is about to get even more secretive than ever. There are plans to add to the overall security moving into the second season, which does make a certain degree of sense given that we’re talking here about a show that will have so much more scrutiny now. When the American version was first announced it was easy to be fairly cynical about it — yet, it’s now one of the biggest hits on all TV and it’s got a very passionate audience. They have to be secretive about the casting, and then even more during production.

We will argue that the show’s really not about the guessing game — it’s more about the sense of humor and the joy that comes out of seeing all of these costumed performers sing every single week. They’re able to craft an identity that is fully separate from anything that they’ve done before, and we genuinely think that this show has value for future stars who want to do something like this in their own career … if they really want to do that.

There is no official premiere date for The Masked Singer season 2 — at least at the moment.
