Psych: The Movie 2 official; Timothy Omundson to have big role

Psych: The Movie

For anyone as eager for Psych: The Movie 2 as we are, we come bearing some super-incredible news today. Bust out your favorite pineapple beverage and celebrate, as the USA sequel is officially happening!

For a long time, we wondered just when we’d have a chance to see this — we even discuss it in the video below! (If you like this, remember to subscribe to CarterMatt on YouTube for some more updates.) The biggest reason to wonder as to whether or not this would happen was scheduling, given that James Roday is a series regular on A Million Little Things while Dule Hill is a regular over on Suits. Today, though, the network confirmed (via TVLine) that filming will begin on the movie next month — there’s probably just enough time to do this before Hill has to get to work on Suits.

Below, the synopsis makes it clear that Timothy Omundson (whose role was limited to a cameo in the first movie due to recovery from a stroke) is going to have a much larger role this time around:

Santa Barbara Police Chief Carlton Lassiter (Omundson) is ambushed on the job and left for dead. In a vintage Psych-style Hitchcockian nod, he begins to see impossible happenings around his recovery clinic. Shawn (Roday) and Gus (Hill) return to Lassie’s side in Santa Barbara and are forced to navigate the personal, the professional, and possibly the supernatural. Separated from their new lives in San Francisco, our heroes find themselves unwelcome in their old stomping grounds as they secretly untangle a twisted case without the benefit of the police, their loved ones, or the quality sourdough bakeries of the Bay Area. What they uncover will change the course of their relationships forever.

This sounds all sorts of wonderful and nostalgic. For starters, it’s us getting a chance to return to the location that the show was prominently set in. Beyond that, we know that the entire core cast is returning — including Maggie Lawson, Corbin Bernsen, and Kirsten Nelson.

Knowing USA, they’ll probably find a way to schedule the movie at some point in 2019. We’d love for it to be in the summer, just because waiting for the movie until the holidays would be the worst form of torture.

As for whether or not there could be a Psych: The Movie 3 … never say never? We think it’s always going to be possible so long as there is an interest from the cast and the viewership for the second movie remains strong. That’s going to be a big part of it.
