Criminal Minds season 15: Should it premiere in the summer?

To be specific, we think the biggest question out there is simply this: When could season 15 premiere? We know that the final ten episodes are being filmed right now and because of that, there is actually a real case for the show to launch at some point in the not-too-distant future if CBS wants. As a matter of fact, you could even make a case for it premiering this summer!
Why would we want that? The biggest reason is that we don’t want to wait all that long for it. There’s a good chance that CBS could want to move on to some other shows as we get further into their actual fall season and because of that, it makes some sense in order for them to give the show a proper goodbye at some other point. If it premieres in the summer, you give yourself more of an ample opportunity to conclude it without taking a timeslot away from a new show in the fall, and you also make it so that diehard fans don’t have to wait anymore.
Is it possible that the ratings could be slightly lower for the show in that spot? Sure, but this is the real beauty of that — does it really matter? You don’t have to worry about cancellation in the final season. Instead, we’d just air the show after new episodes of Big Brother and see if it can draw at least decent numbers. You don’t make anyone wait, and then everyone in the cast has a chance to leap forward into some other things.
As to when we could find out precisely when the Criminal Minds premiere date is, the earliest we expect an announcement is May, when networks hold their upfronts. If there is some sort of news that comes out before then, we’d consider that a happy surprise — a pleasant surprise for sure, at least if we know that we’re getting to see these final ten episodes sooner rather than later. One way or another, we definitely hope they are worth the wait.
