In the sneak peek below, you can see Vanessa Baxter coming home and clueing Mike in to the news that the wedding is going to be happening. When the two parties first married a good 25 years ago, it was a quickie ceremony designed at the time so they could tie the knot before Chuck went out on deployment. This marks an opportunity for the two of them to have something akin to a proper celebration, one with all of their friends and family in attendance.
Vanessa tells her husband in this preview that Carol wants her to serve as the matron of honor for the ceremony, and apparently, there’s something that Chuck wants to talk with Mike about! He reads this as Chuck wanting to name him Best man, but that may not actually be the case. Based on some of the previews that are out there already for this episode, the more likely scenario here is that Mike is going to be asked to officiate the ceremony — a duty that Mike will take very seriously, which leads to some comedy in turn.
Given that this is the week of Valentine’s Day, what better time is there to tell this particular story? This is a celebration of love and this episode should give us a great opportunity to see a lot of that from start to finish. Given that this show is still a sitcom, though, we also do not expect it to drift altogether far from its traditional identity here, either. It’s going to be rather fun to see exactly how this series manages to create an environment for the ceremony that is sweet, romantic, but also still worthy of laughs. A big part of it will probably just revolve around allowing these characters to be themselves — they are naturally funny, which is why they hold so much appeal to many in the first place.
