America’s Got Talent season 14: Julianne Hough on joining panel

Pompeyo Family Dogs

At the moment, we’re still reeling from the surprise news on America’s Got Talent season 14. After several years aboard the show, Mel B and Heidi Klum are gone. Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough are in, and so is host Terry Crews — who was already a part of America’s Got Talent: The Champions and made his interest in continuing on in this role very clear.

So what does Hough have to say about joining the show? In a post on Twitter below, the danger/singer/actress makes some of her thoughts clear! It’s an interesting hire, given that NBC shows now have both Julianne and Derek Hough after they became TV mainstays on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars.

While Union is a little more of a wild-card pick for the producers, Hough does come with some judging experience — she filled that role on Dancing with the Stars after originally being a pro on the show, working alongside the likes of Helio Castroneves and Apolo Anton Ohno. We know that she can be a fun, enthusiastic judge, but with this particular show it’s about more than just that. It’s about trying to find the perfect chemistry with the rest of the panel and understanding what this show is. It’s serious in that you are changing lives and there is a big winner at the end of it. However, it’s also lighthearted family programming and you need to be able to laugh at yourself a little bit. You also have to be willing to participate in some of the acts; that is something that we’ve certainly seen in the past — sometimes to the judges’ own chagrin.

The new America’s Got Talent season will premiere this summer on NBC — auditions have already taken place all over the country, but that’s the part with producers as opposed to the judges. Those particular auditions will take place in the spring.
