The Flash season 5: The latest Carlos Valdes rumors on Cisco’s future

Are we going to be seeing the end of Cisco Ramon’s time on the show sooner rather than later? We’ve written already about the character’s recent absence from the show, as well as the fact that it doesn’t seem as though he has all that much to do this season other than the meta-human cure and a very-new but possible love interest. It’s possible that these rumors are more smoke than they are fire, and Valdes may just be contracted for a shorter number of episodes this season — something that we’ve seen with some other actors across the Arrowverse. For some of Willa Holland’s final seasons on Arrow, she was only booked to appear in a percentage of the season.
According to a report from Discussing Film, Valdes is leaving at the conclusion of the season — he’s going to be appearing in some episodes beyond what you see tonight, so you do not have to worry about his short-term future on the show. Even with this report, it only cites unnamed sources suggesting that the actor may be looking to get more into stage performing again — similar to what Jeremy Jordan did following his stint on Supergirl.
If Valdes does leave, it makes a certain degree of sense given that five seasons is a long time to have any job, let alone one that displaces you from your home and much of your family. Carlos was born in Colombia but spent the majority of his life before joining The Flash on the East Coast — meaning he doesn’t work anywhere close to where he’s spent some of the most-important years of his life. That could take a toll, and a part of being an actor is dealing with somewhat of the nomadic nature of the show.
For now though, we’re going to classify this mostly as a rumor. While we do have legitimate concern about the future of Cisco on The Flash, Valdes himself has not announced any plans to leave. We know that the show wouldn’t quite be the same without him, though, as we’re talking about an original cast member and one of the first people, other than Barry, we had a chance to meet. Cisco originally appeared in an episode of Arrow alongside Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) before the show officially premiered.
