Shameless season 9 episode 11 preview: Debbie, Kelly, & Carl

Going into the episode tonight, we knew that Debbie was still exploring her sexuality. With that being said, we did not anticipate that there would be a big reveal that she may be harboring some feelings for Kelly. It came about mostly via a scene at the end of the episode and the question you have to wonder is this — does Kelly feel anything back? Carl’s going to have some questions about this, though he’ll have to balance taking that on with some of the new responsibility that he has at his new job — sure, spinning a sign isn’t big business, but it’s at least honest work. That’s more than what we can say at the moment about Fiona, who is coming off of being arrested at the end of tonight’s episode for punching her repugnant neighbor in the face. She may not be likable, but a crime is still a crime.

The finals of the Hobo Games have arrived, and Frank faces off against his friend and greatest opponent while Ingrid grows anxious about his commitment to their future family. Lip prepares to officially adopt Xan, but his plans collide with Fiona’s partying. Debbie starts developing feelings for someone surprising, and Carl excels at the shrimp shack.
The story for Lip has the potential to be the one that breaks our heart the most, largely because of everything that we’ve seen from it so far. For example, we’ve seen just how much he cares about Xan, and how much it does feel like his new relationship has helped him get his life together. He would be a good father if he continues on this road, but the problem here is that Fiona’s own spiral is happening at the worst possible time for him. She’s not exactly a good influence to anyone and all of a sudden, we don’t get any sign that this character is actually going to be getting better.
