Let’s begin with this — unfortunately, you’re not going to be seeing more of your favorite Phoenix Foundation crew on TV tonight, largely due to the fact that there’s a two-hour Celebrity Big Brother on instead. We’re going to have to wait until February 15 to get the show back … so how about some details to tide you over?

If you missed it, we already shared here some of the first insight on the show’s first episode back following the hiatus — the first featuring Levy Tran as Desi, a new member of the team. The February 22 episode is entitled “Lidar + Rogues + Duty,” and what we want to spotlight here is the return of a more familiar face — Elwood! Billy Baldwin will be coming back in this episode as Riley’s father, which is good in that it shows that the two are continuing to build a relationship and it’s not just something that’s being cast aside. We also think that Elwood could be more important to Riley’s life moving forward with Jack out of the picture for a while — Jack did serve as a surrogate father-figure for her at some various times in her life.

As for how Elwood is going to factor into this story … let’s just say that he finds himself in a rather-unfortunate spot. The MacGyver season 3 episode 16 synopsis below confirms that further:

“Lidar + Rogues + Duty” – The Phoenix must recover the body of a pilot whose plane crashed while testing an experimental laser mapping system that MacGyver designed. Also, Riley tries to identify the hacker who tricked a SWAT team into arresting her and Elwood, on MACGYVER, Friday, Feb. 22 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

In some ways, this Riley story sounds a little bit like a twisted version of swatting, that stupid prank in which a SWAT team shows up at someone’s house and scares the daylights out of them or worse. Riley is a hacker, and her past does make her occasionally a target. Yet, at this point it seems like she’s innocent of any wrongdoing and whoever is after her is doing it mostly in hopes of finding a way to ensure that she can be taken down a notch.

If you do like big, character-centric episodes, this MacGyver installment could prove to be for you.
