Veep season 7 premiere date revealed at HBO; what’s next?

Veep

Wait no more — HBO has officially announced the premiere date for Veep season 7, otherwise known as the final one.

The final seven episodes of the show are going to start airing beginning on March 31, and that means that we’re going to have a chance to enjoy the bulk of the series run from that point until early to mid-May. It’s a shortened run for the show, but it makes sense given the arc of this story. We’re also just grateful to have it in the first place given that it was not altogether easy to make it to this point. Production was delayed due to star Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ breast cancer diagnosis, and we’re happy first and foremost that she was healthy enough to come back to do this show. She’s one of the best comedic talents of our time, and her work as Selina Meyer is proof of that.

In the final season, expect to see Selina Meyer making her push at running for President (again) — we’ve got a feeling that it could be catastrophic, but in the end, maybe we do end up seeing her find her way to her desired endpoint.

In talking about the choice to end the show with a short run today at the TCA Winter Press tour, show executive producer David Mandel had the following to say (via TVLine):

“I knew where the show was going to end, and then it was sort of a matter of how long would it take to get to the end. And we didn’t know. We were given a wonderful chance by HBO to explore and figure out if it meant two years or two years and a movie or whatever it was going to be.

“We reached a very natural point storytelling-wise … We looked at each other and kind of went, ‘I think that’s the end. That’s right.’ I can only tell you they’re crazy, jam-packed episodes. I think you’ll find there’s more than 10 episodes worth of material jammed into them.”

We’re anticipating that this final season is going to be as hilarious as any one that has come beforehand — beyond that, we’re also just thrilled that this show has made even bigger stars of some of the cast including Gary Cole, Tony Hale, Matt Walsh, Timothy Symons, and more.
