According to a new report coming in right now via Deadline, Deschanel will have a major role across Animal Kingdom season 4 as Angela. Who is she? For starters, she is the former best friend of Julia, Pope’s deceased twin sister — with that in mind, she does have some sort of connection to the Cody family around. She makes her arrival at the Cody house in an attempt to try to get in good with her family once more. She’s described as being a survivor, someone who is “scrappy, manipulative and an addict.” She’ll try to get in good with the family, but there may be some problems that eventually come up through this.

So how will she be treated by some various members of the family? Look at things this way — she will try to seduce Pope and will be loathed by J while Smurf wonders what she is really up to. The idea of some outsider from the past trying to sneak their way back into the Cody family has certainly been done before on this show, and there are some clear similarities here to what we saw for the better part of this past season with Denis Leary. Nonetheless, this does still feel like an interesting proposition for this show to get a performer like Emily on board — especially for a role that couldn’t be any more different from what we saw from her previously with Bones. This character seems like the polar opposite of Brennan in many ways and that may be a big part of the fun.

One of the toughest things about this gig may just be having to wait for more information, given that Animal Kingdom is not slated to come on the air until we get around to the summer. This is one of TNT’s highest-rated shows, however, and we do think that the network will find a way to make the most of however much time they do have Emily — and it will expose her work to a different sort of audience. Also, remember that there are probably some other castings that need to be announced.
