Mom renewed for season 7, season 8 by CBS

Mom season 5 renewal -

For everyone who was nervous about the future of Mom on CBS, there’s no more reason to be for the time being.

Today, the network confirmed that they are bringing back the comedy, starring Anna Faris and Allison Janney, for not just one, but two seasons. This comes after a lengthy process of contract negotiations, one in which Faris and Janney were seeking substantial raises. That’s commonplace for most series that make it past season 6, and it makes even more sense here when you consider that these two are among the biggest stars that CBS has. With The Big Bang Theory coming to a close after this season, Mom rises in importance and is, all of a sudden, one of the most important shows that the network has. It will probably be more reliant to bring attention to their schedule. It’s not necessarily a ratings powerhouse, but it is well-reviewed and has a loyal following among viewers. It’s also one of those few comedies that are not particularly afraid of taking on delicate subjects. This is a show about recovery and about characters finding a way to beat the odds to keep on living.

In a new statement, here is what network programming head Kelly Kahl had to say:

“We’re exceptionally proud to have Mom on our air; a high-quality, signature comedy with characters viewers love, that also brings strength and stability to our lineup … Under Chuck Lorre’s extraordinary leadership and with his outstanding writing and production team, we look forward to having Mom on CBS for many years to come.”

New episodes of Mom season 7 will premiere this fall, and in doing a two-season renewal CBS has ensured that they got some stability with this show for some time. Once they get into season 7, they can probably spend a little bit of time then figuring out whether or not this is a show that they can bring back for another season or if that should be the end.

For now, there’s nothing left to do other than celebrate if you are a particularly big fan of Mom. After all, you’re continuing to get more of a show that you like for a fairly-substantial stretch of time.
