This Is Us season 3 episode 13 title hints at big Beth story

There is a lot to like on paper about This Is Us season 3 episode 13, and a lot of it has to do with the episode’s title.

Per NBC, the official title for this upcoming episode (currently set to air on February 18) is “Bethany Clarke.” What’s that a reference to? Well, if you’ve been watching the show for a while, there’s a good chance that you know already. This is the much-hyped episode that is going to deliver a generous amount of Beth backstory and allow us an opportunity to understand more of where she comes from and how her past helps to impact her present. This could also be where she starts to make some big decisions that further help to define whatever her future is going to be.

If you like backstory-heavy episodes of this show, it feels like this will be right up your alley. We do know that it’s been the plan for the start for NBC to deliver some big backstory-heavy episodes involving some of the show’s minor characters. We had a great installment earlier this season with Toby, and while we haven’t necessarily had a big, Miguel-specific hour, there has at least been an opportunity to get to know that character a little bit better as well.

By the time we do get around to “Bethany Clarke,” one thing that does feel rather clear is that we’ll have some more answers on Nicky Pearson. That’s going to be the focus of the next new episode on February 12. (Originally, this episode was set for February 5, but it has been pushed back for the State of the Union Address.)

What we do wonder right now is simply this: Is there going to be a way in which this episode carries over to the flash-forwards of Beth? We’ve seen her, seemingly successful, many years down the line. We’re hoping that there will be a chance to see that timeline explored down the road, and this episode could have some clues.
