Super Bowl LIII: Gladys Knight performs National Anthem in Atlanta

Super Bowl LIII

Super Bowl LIII kicked off tonight with a performance that we had some incredibly high hopes for in advance. It was hard not to when you think for a moment about the talent at the center of it: Gladys Knight. She’s performed the National Anthem before and for good reason, when you, of course, think about the power of her voice. She’s an exceptional singer and someone not afraid to put her own creative stamp on things. She’s also an icon who hails from the area.

For the NFL, she was a fairly-safe person to hire for this gig, mostly due to the simple fact that she’s done this before and they certainly don’t want a disaster on their hands with this.

So how did Gladys actually do? Outstanding, not that this should be all that much of a surprise. It also was a pretty good reminder that she is probably the Bee from The Masked Singer when you compare how this sounded to how she does in that costume.

Gladys, perhaps more than anything, reminded us further that sometimes, you don’t need to go out there and try something super-crazy or shocking. You just need to deliver a beautiful performance of a classic song that draws everyone’s attention and has them appreciating your talent.

If you haven’t had a chance to see Knight’s performance yet, you can check that you below.
