Death in Paradise season 8 episode 5 preview: Will Patrice, Florence get married?

Death in Paradise

Next week, Death in Paradise season 8 episode 5 is going to be bringing you something a little bit different: A potential wedding! Patrice and Florence are getting closer to taking that next important step in their lives … but there’s no guarantee of that happening. The one thing that is guaranteed to be a little bit different about this episode is that it’s going to be the first installment of a two-part event. Part one is airing on February 7, and then part 2 is coming on February 14.

So what makes this particular story worthy of two different parts? Let’s just say that this is one of the most-epic cases that we’ve seen the entire investigative team take on. For some specific information, check out the official Death in Paradise season 8 episode 5 synopsis below:

In this first episode of a two-part special, a shadow is cast over a small fishing community in the village of Belle Mer when their festival queen ‘Mama D’Mer’ Tiana (Nicole Lecky), is murdered while alone on a boat minutes from her celebrated arrival at the annual Mahi Mahi festival.

Crowds are gathering on the shore to cheer her on when DI Mooney (Ardal O’Hanlon) realizes something isn’t right.

DI Mooney and DS Florence Cassell are baffled as they look for clues to how the murder could have been committed, and a missing loaf of bread leaves Jack stumped.

Florence and Patrice look forward to their wedding, which is now only a week away, but a huge strain is put on their relationship when Patrice is drawn into the case as an employer and a long-time friend of Tiana and her boyfriend Harrison (Zackary Momoh), who runs a water-taxi in the village.

As the last people to have seen Tiana alive, Harrison, Tiana’s mother Louise (Indra Ové), a recovering alcoholic, and her good friend Nelly (Nneka Okoye), become the prime suspects.

Meanwhile, JP (Tobi Bakare) and Ruby’s (Shyko Amos) partnership continues to develop as she seeks his advice on a compromising thought! With the case seemingly close to being solved, events take a sudden and shocking turn which will rock the team to its core…

It is this “sudden and shocking turn” that probably makes this story into a two-parter, and for good reason. It could turn out that this case is either more personal or more complicated than anyone first thought, and if that’s the case, we’re down to watch it unravel. Death in Paradise is one of those shows that typically exists within a very particular sort of tone, and because of that it’s all the more notable when it gets dramatic. It means more because you have an investment in the characters and their lives.
