Vikings season 6 premiere-date hopes for Katheryn Winnick, cast
Of course, let’s kick this article off with a very clear reminder that there will in fact be a season 6 on the network. This was not only ordered more than a year ago, but there’s already been a ton of filming for the upcoming twenty episodes. The production cycle for this show has proven itself to be quite strange, largely due to the fact that filming often takes place over a year before select episodes air. We know that this show has a lengthy production cycle, but is it this long? It feels more like History is trying to milk this particular franchise for every drop that they possibly can. On some level, we get that — Vikings is a super-popular show (one of the best show currently on television) and you obviously want to have it on the air for as long as humanly possible.
Unfortunately, we do know now that this show has a designated end: Season 6 will be the final one for the series proper (there are talks of a spin off and we are still hoping for a Rollo spin off!), and we’re sure that History is thinking about that when it comes to determining when the next batch of episodes airs.
If we are to look at past patterns to determine the future (which clearly makes the most sense), the fairest guess is that season 6 will officially premiere at some point in November — they have the flexibility to push it and premiere the show earlier, but that is entirely up to them and they aren’t talking at the moment. If they continue the show in its current airing pattern, the series finale would not air until early 2021 — a good two years down the road! That is a lot to wait for something that’s been already announced, and that is probably the strongest case for the show opting to come back on the air either a little bit sooner or to take less of a break between the first and second half of the season.
What we know about the future
For starters, Katheryn Winnick will be directing at least one episode of the upcoming season! Beyond that, there is also some sort of spin-off/series extension in the works. Our feeling with that is that it’s a way to continue the Vikings brand while also bringing something new to the table. It’s still a little bit early to have much in the way of concrete news on the subject — it’s just something to keep in mind for a good while.
Once there are more announcements on the future of Vikings, we’ll have them for you here.
