Outlander

Tonight, Sam Heughan took part in an Outlander Q&A session following the end of season 4 on Sunday, there are some notable answers worth discussing!

Let’s start with one related to the famous Highlander ghost at the start of the series — it’s one that has a specific meaning and it may very well be one of the most frequent questions that many people have. We, of course, have all sorts of theories about time loops, the past moving to the present, and fate, but there is no clear answer to the subject right now.

Apparently, though, Sam does know the meaning behind the ghost! It just comes down to whether or not we get the answer at some point on the show. The books are totally up to Diana Gabaldon, but we imagine that there would be some sort of consultation between the producers and Diana if this was to creep up on the show or explained.

One other thing worth noting via Sam is that there are a couple of notable scenes that were cut, including an emotional scene following the deaths of Gavin and Lesley. There was also a love scene that didn’t end up making in on. The main issue why Outlander doesn’t do more extended episodes is because it’s difficult to really extend run times to all parties all across the world — it’s why scenes get cut when the run time creeps close to an hour. This is actually a topic that we’ll probably do a larger article about at some point in the near future. Stay tuned…

Finally, Sam did also make it clear in the Q&A that he would love to direct an upcoming episode of the show. We’d love to see it! Of course, the challenge is that directing an episode of this show is super-challenging and it’s also hard to really direct himself. In order for him to do it, he’d also have to probably take a smaller acting role … and we know how a lot of people felt about the lack of Jamie and Claire already this season.

Sam also noted that he will be taking the next month or so off, which means for him filming could begin either in late February/early March in theory. Cesar Domboy said previously that season 5 filming begins in February, but it is also worth noting that he said that last summer and these things could always change. He also may have said that before a date was finalized. Nonetheless, season 5 will be underway soon!
