Outlander season 5: When does it start filming? More information
In a new interview with WWD, Domboy stated that season 5 filming will be underway starting in February, which marks the first time that we’ve gotten insight as to what month production will be back underway. This timeline makes some sense; Balfe had noted that the filming hiatus would be about seven months, which means that there’s a chance for she and some other cast members to do a couple of different gigs in between now and when filming returns. We know that both Caitriona and Sam Heughan have at least one more project in the works; beyond that, we’ll likely find out over time.
If Outlander begins filming season 5 in February and production for the 12-episode season lasts around eight months (which we expect — it’ll probably be shorter than season 4 due to there being one fewer episode), the show will wrap things up come October / early November. This gives more credence to the idea that season 5 could premiere in the winter or spring of 2020. That’s a long time to wait, but we’ve got no problem doing so if the end result is a quality show. (If we’re thinking beyond that, we imagine that season 6 will probably premiere in the spring / summer of 2021 if production operates with a slightly-similar timeline in mind. Everything is still subject to change in this regard.)
It is also noted in this aforementioned interview that Domboy is already done filming the fourth season; we haven’t received confirmation of this for every other cast member and as noted in the video below (be sure to subscribe to CarterMatt on YouTube for more), the filming location that Outlander has been working on is apparently booked until the end of the month.
