In the sneak peek below, you can see Russell trying to navigate and weave through a scene of protesters. This is going to be a tough situation for him, mostly because it would be for any government official in his place. We know Russell is someone who is trying to do the best that he can to make America a better and safer place, but that doesn’t mean he will make everyone happy. Foreign policy decisions can often be controversial, and Russell also certainly has an abrasive way in which he communicates sometimes. The specific thing that he is attacked for in this preview is being a part of America’s “imperialism,” where the country is one of the bullies of the world.
Do we think that these protesters could be a problem for the entirety of the episode? On some level, sure; they represent the people and protesting is a valuable part of democracy … even if it does become a hindrance for people in government at times. The best thing that you can do if you’re someone like Russell is to acknowledge them, hear them, but then also still have the confidence in what you are doing. If there is a compromise to be made, maybe you find a way in which to make it.
Without a doubt, this isn’t the easiest of situations for someone to deal with — yet, we have to think that Russell is used to dealing with problems after having this job for the period of time in which he has. If he can navigate issues involving world leaders, you have to hope that he can handle some people with an opposition to White House policy. Think of this preview as just scratching the surface of some of the larger, more international issues that are going to find themselves prevalent over the course of the hour to come. Given that there won’t be another episode after this one for at least a little while, it’s best to enjoy the story while it’s here.
