Will Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt season 5 come in the form of a movie?

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Following tomorrow’s launch of the remaining Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt season 4 episodes, what could we have in terms of a season 5? That’s something we’re going to discuss a little bit further within this particular piece!

Ultimately, we wouldn’t count on there being any more in a traditional form, given that the remaining batch of season 4 is meant to be the end of the series. This was a creative decision by the cast, crew, and producers, and this was not happening because Netflix wanted to end the show by any means.

So is there still hope to continue a story in some other shape or form? Well, it does seem like talks of a possible movie are still on! Speaking via Deadline, executive producer Robert Carlock had the following to say when it comes to this idea:

Well, I just think it would be really fun. We chose very specific ending places for everybody but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t stories to tell. I think there’s some really fun stuff that is still on the table for all of them, so it would be fun.

Meanwhile, fellow EP Tina Fey added the following:

We would [love] the idea to have everybody back not just our cast but our crew who we love so much, and so many of whom are our crew from 30 Rock. These are the people we’ve been working with for 12 years on and off, so the idea of any excuse to reunite, we’re more than happy to do it, and we definitely feel like these characters are fertile enough to revisit, and yeah, hopefully it will all work out.

We don’t know how much of a hurry there will be in trying to make this happen, but maybe a few months down the road this can be revisited.

Regardless of whether or not we do end up getting to see more of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt down the road, one thing remains the same — this show has a place in Netflix’s history books. It was a comedy that really set the tone for them when it came to doing a lot of other live-action shows in that space, and it also does represent one of NBC’s larger errors — they had a chance to do something with this show, but it ended up being shifted over to the streaming provider instead. We do wonder how this could have fared in a traditional network format.
