Death in Paradise season 8 episode 4 preview: A coffee titan + family drama

Death in Paradise

Next week, Death in Paradise season 8 episode 4 will be taking you from the world of TV production to something that feels a little more like Dynasty — or, at least the coffee version of it. You’re going to see a murder case that is set almost entirely around the death of a titan within the plantation world. He’s someone who had a lot of money to gain from selling his property and his business — and of course, this is the time he turns up dead. Enter Jack Mooney. Every episode of this show, one way or another, starts the same way, but what makes all of them different are some of the bits and pieces that you come across with every case.

Below, CarterMatt has the official Death in Paradise season 8 episode 4 synopsis with some more information as to what’s coming:

In the wake of his father’s death, Benedict Dacre (Robert Portal, pictured) rules the roost at the Paradise Skies Coffee plantation – but all is not plain sailing. Soon after he breaks the news to his family that it is time for them to move on and sell the plantation, Benedict is found murdered.

DI Jack Mooney (Ardal O’Hanlon) and the team must navigate the tempestuous waters of a family divided, as the Dacres fall under suspicion following the shooting at their home.

Family tensions start to unravel when Benedict’s sister, Ciss Dacre (Anna Chancellor), her son Owen (Louis Greatorex), Benedict’s new American realtor wife Ricki (Susy Kane), his spoilt daughter Ruth (Margaret Clunie), and loyal housekeeper Josephine (Sara Powell) all fall under suspicion.

Elsewhere Ruby (Shyko Amos) is settling in well and reveals to JP (Tobi Bakare) that she was once arrested, much to his horror. Has she put her own job at risk? And Florence (Josephine Jobert) and Patrice (Leemore Marrett Jr) think they have found the perfect wedding venue – but they are in for a nasty surprise.

Meanwhile Commissioner Selwyn (Don Warrington) challenges DI Mooney on the rise of illegal crab racing in bars across the island. But is Jack more involved than he is letting on?

As is the case with almost every other episode of Death in Paradise, the majority of the episode will revolve around the murder investigation; yet, it does seem like there are a number of other little, personal stories that will populate this episode, as well. Take for example, getting an opportunity to learn a little bit more about Ruby, who is still new to this world, and seeing Florence and Patrice continue to make some moves towards a wedding. This is a show that does like to keep things light while dealing with important matters such as death; with that in mind, continue to anticipate that this show has somewhat of a healthy mix.
