The Magicians renewed for season 5 by Syfy right before season 4 premiere
For everyone excited for the season 4 premiere of The Magicians this week on Syfy, we come bearing some really-good news! Today, the network decided to renew the show for a season 5, and with the timing of this news, you can dive in and enjoy the remainder of this season without any problem.
To go along with this news, it was revealed today that executive producer Henry Alonso Myers was promoted to co-showrunner alongside John McNamara and Sera Gamble. This marks a slight change behind the scenes, but it’s not one that we think is going to have a tremendous impact on the show moving forward. It just solidifies more top-tier talent is working constantly on the series.
In a statement, here is what McNamara and Gamble had to say about the renewal:
“We couldn’t be happier or more excited to conjure another year of magic and all it entails — love, hate, loyalty, betrayal, sex, foul language, drugs, battling gods, monsters and the most dangerous enemies of all: other human beings … We have the best writers, producers, directors, cast and crew in the charted multiverse. Here’s how strongly we believe this: Anyone who tries to poach a single one of them will be cursed. And we have the voodoo dolls to do it.”
The Magicians, since its launch, has been one of the network’s premier original series. It has an inventive brand of storytelling, a devoted fan base, and beyond all of that critical acclaim. Syfy doesn’t tend to have original shows that last longer than four or five seasons at most, so for this show to make it to season 5 is a big achievement. That’s how long Z Nation managed to last before it was recently canceled. No matter how long The Magicians lasts, we hope that there is a chance for some sort of proper conclusion. It’s our personal belief that anytime a show makes it further than a season 3, it’s worthy of some sort of proper conclusion that really honors the entire journey from start to finish.
The fifth season of The Magicians should premiere at some point in 2020, provided that Syfy follows the same timeline for the show that they have in the past. There will be plenty of time to address whether or not this is the final season down the line, but for now, we can just sit back and enjoy the show over the next few months.
