What the Whisperers bring to the table is explained more by the cast and creators at the bottom of this article, as they do their best in order to detail why Alpha and the rest of her group view the world the way that they do. There’s an understanding among the Whisperers that this is the walkers’ world now and they are just living in it. Because of this, the Whisperers try their best to be one with the zombies who walk the earth. They wear their disguises and then use them in just about every way that they possibly can.
Of course, the challenge for some of our heroes is going to be 1) trying to find a way to detect them and 2) trying to find a way to then understand them. We’ve already received a small taste of who these people are, but there is so much more to this story than just that. It’s also about understanding more of their threat level and some of the things that need to be watched out for. What’s their endgame? That’s something that we’ll hopefully get a little more information on sooner rather than later. There are eight episodes coming this season and this is likely going to set the table for these characters. It’s too early to say whether or not they will last beyond that.
The one thing that the Whisperers have going for them, at least when it comes to be compelling characters within this world, is the presence of one Samantha Morton. We know her already to be as dynamic a performer as this show is going to find, and she’s probably going to embrace the opportunity to take on a show that is this crazy, intense, and different from almost any other character you’re going to play. There is then also the sort of fear-factor aspect that comes with wearing the mask and being able to terrify viewers in just a matter of a few short seconds.
Now, there just needs to be a way where there are some more surprises — it can’t just be losing Jesus.
