American Gods season 2 trailer: The battle of old versus new

Come Sunday, March 10 on Starz, you best be prepared for an adventure like no other — American Gods season 2 is coming. No doubt, it’s been an extremely long wait since new episodes of the series were on the air. Nonetheless, this show is going to give us an opportunity to dive back into this world, and also prepare ourselves for a battle between the old and new gods like never before.

Below, you can check out the official trailer for the second season, one that features some familiar faces, intrigue, and also the signature visual style that you have come to expect from this show. There are few other programs out there that throw you into the same sort of immersive world, one that chooses to tell a story with visual flourishes that are distinct and befitting a show with this sort of elevated subject matter.

We were forged in God’s image, but the Gods are also made in ours — and in Season Two the battle moves inexorably toward crisis point as the destinies of gods and men collide. While Mr. World plots revenge for the attack against him in Season One, Shadow throws in his lot with Wednesday’s attempt to convince the Old Gods of the case for full-out war, with Laura and Mad Sweeney in tow. A council at the House on the Rock explodes into chaos, sending deities both Old and New on quests across America that will converge on Cairo, Illinois forcing Shadow to carve out a place as a believer in this strange new world of living gods — a dark world where change demands commitment, and faith requires terrible sacrifice.

We do think that this new season of American Gods does have a good bit to live up to, largely because there is a different showrunner at the helm and, to go along with that, chances to stir up thhe story in some new and exciting ways. Will the new iteration of the show work? We do at least know that there is some fantastic source material out there and, to go along with it, a great cast led by Ricky Whittle as Shadow Moon.

For Starz, we imagine that American Gods season 2 should help fill the void that they are going to have to deal with following the end of Outlander tonight — that show will be back, but it’s probably not going to be for a good while.
