Outlander season 4 episode 13 (finale) spoilers: Will Jamie, Claire save Roger?

Outlander

Next week, Outlander season 4 episode 13 — otherwise known as the season finale — will arrive on Starz. With that, we will be rather sad to see this story wind down. There’s a lot of ground to cover now over the course of this final hour, and we have to prepare ourselves for something that will be painful, emotional, and also action-packed.

Before we venture too much further here, let’s kick things off by sharing the official Outlander season 4 episode 13 synopsis with more news as to what’s coming up:

Jamie, Claire and Young Ian’s attempt to rescue Roger from his Mohawk captors goes awry when a ghost from Claire’s past lays waste to their plan. Meanwhile, Brianna worries Claire, Jamie and Roger might not return and contemplates life as a single parent without them.

Who could this “ghost from Claire’s past” be? That’s one of the things, at least as a non-book reader, that intrigues us the most. We are glad to know that Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe’s characters will be back at the center of the show again for the finale — and that John Bell’s Young Ian will be there, as well. These three all have an enormous responsibility given that they are effectively Roger’s last hope of freedom. Also, they need to figure out if there is a way for them to escape this situation in one piece. There is no guarantee that we’re going to see a lot of cooperation from the Mohawk, given that they have no real obligation to sell Roger back to Young Ian after the original transaction was complete.

As for what’s happening beyond the Mohawk village, we imagine that we could be seeing Lord John escorting Brianna back to River Run as she prepares to welcome her baby. Whether or not it happens during the finale is something that we will have to wait and see; it does already feel like some parts of the story may not unfold fully until season 5. For example, the only way we’re going to seemingly have some sort of Roger / Brianna reunion at this point is if the series takes some sort of enormous time jump on the other side of Roger being found.

No matter what happens, it is certainly a relief to enter the season 4 finale knowing full well that there is a season 5 on the other side. This alleviates any concerns and allows us to just enjoy the show.
