Gotham season 5 episode 5 photo: See Eduardo Dorrance, before Bane

Dorrance

What’s coming up on Gotham season 5 episode 5? There are a number of things that you can expect in this episode, but Eduardo Dorrance is at the center of many of them.

There are so many interesting things about how the show is presenting this character, but for us, many of them start with the sole fact that he’s (seemingly) not going to be Bane when he first arrives on the show! Instead, Dorrance will present himself as someone who is interested in bringing aid to the city. He wants to actually help to make Gotham a better, safer place, and it’s not until later that things take a dark turn.

Of course, the question that comes with that is precisely how he ends up getting corrupted by some of his surroundings. What makes this guy into someone who wants to inflict chaos? Is this a product of someone like Hugo Strange? Well, we know that this character will be back in season 5 episode 5, so that is certainly an interesting possibility. Another is that this is a byproduct of Jeremiah, who certainly has the ability to drive characters into madness via some of his own unique ways. He embraces the opportunity to cause some of his trademark chaos and he’ll almost surely be interested in doing the same exact thing here.

One way or another, we know that eventually, Bane is going to arrive and he’s going to mean business. This is someone who is violent, brash, and intimidating really in a way very few other characters are. We know already from New York Comic-Con that the character will be breaking Alfred’s back, a move that is a flip of something that happens within the Batman comics.

The real importance of Bane

We think that for Gotham, one of the goals from the start was to incorporate as many different Batman villains at possible. Bane was one of the biggest ones that they hadn’t taken on going into the final season and with that, it only seemed appropriate to take him on now. It also did make some sense for the series to take their time here, largely due to the fact that he is such a violent, brutal character. He brings with him a flurry of intense and rage, at least when the character is at the height of his powers. He’s also a far more intelligent character that Batman & Robin the movie ever gave him credit for. That’s what made his appearance in The Dark Knight Rises all the more important.
