Shameless season 9 episode 8 sneak peek: Fiona unravels more

Shameless season 9 episode 8 is coming up on Showtime after an extended break, and there is a LOT of drama ahead for Fiona. How much so? Well, the sneak peek below makes it seem like she may not even be able to hold down a job in her present state.

Emmy Rossum’s character is working as a waitress in the scene below, but she quickly finds herself focusing on something that’s a little bit different than the clientele — she gets obsessed over some of the gum that people are leaving under the tables. She goes on a tirade about it in front of customers, and also does a quick investigation on almost every single table in the place. We don’t exactly think that she’s going to be holding down her job on the other side of this, but Fiona does have a point — it really is gross how so many people just leave their gum almost everywhere without a care in the world. Also, how many people really even chew gum anymore? Obviously there are many, given that we do see the stuff almost everywhere at grocery stores; we just don’t know a single person who does.

Away from the job, you’re going to see Fiona in this episode continuing to spiral in almost every way imaginable. She’ll be drinking heavily and trying to numb some of what she’s went through including a devastating breakup and also some major setbacks in her attempts to find a larger career for herself. Our heart does go out for her, given that she’s been through a lot and it’s pretty darn obvious at this point that there are a lot of things in her life that just have not gone her way. Hopefully, the final part of season 9 will lead to some sort of recovery for her.

We know that Rossum is leaving the series at the end of the season, and with that one of the priorities for the writers should be finding a way to do this that makes sense. We think that there’s a possibility of happiness for this character down the line, but clearly the writers are trying to show here that in order to feature her at her best, they want to drag her through one of the worst times of her life first.
