According to a new report coming in from Deadline, Krista Marie Yu, who plays the character of foreign-exchange student Jen on the Fox series, has been promoted to series regular. What this means is that the show wants to lock her in for a substantial period of time moving forward. It doesn’t necessarily mean that Yu will appear on every single episode of the show the rest of the season, but the producers want to lock her in to ensure that they have her for anything that they need story-wise for the rest of the way.

Yu first appeared on the show this season, and returned just this month for the episode entitled “Common Ground.” She is now living at the Baxter household and with that, the writers are going to be spending more time finding specific stories for her to be a part of. There’s a lot of ground for them to explore with someone new coming into the family. There’s a cultural exchange that should be fascinating to watch, and beyond just that Jen is someone who will likely go through some of the same struggles that any young person would. Creatively, she also allows the Baxters to have another young person spending time in the house with them, which has become increasingly difficult with the other kids growing up. Kaitlyn Dever only shows up sporadically on the show at this point, so it’s not as though we are getting to see a lot of Eve these days.

Last Man Standing is really just halfway through its 22-episode season at the moment, meaning that there is a lot of good stuff still to come! Fox is being patient when it comes to the rollout of new episodes, though they can afford to be right now given that the series has done a great job when it comes to posting good ratings and generating buzz for the show. We anticipated that the revival of the formerly-canceled ABC show would find some success, but it’s hard to predict that it would be on this particular level.
