Where is Station 19, and why isn’t it new tonight on ABC?

Where is Station 19, and why is it that we’re not getting new episodes of the series on ABC tonight? There is a chance that you are wondering this very thing.

For basically the entire run of the show to date, the Jaina Lee Ortiz series has come on the air directly after new Grey’s Anatomy episodes — therefore, it makes a certain degree of sense that the show would continue this trend. ABC has replaced the show with A Million Little Things in the lineup, and it’s going to be there for most of the next few weeks. After the conclusion of A Million Little Things coming up a matter of weeks down the road, Station 19 will come back with new episodes in March.

As for why ABC chose to do this, the simplest explanation is that they want to give A Million Little Things a chance to shine and hopefully get another batch of episodes down the road. We wouldn’t interpret this as a sign that Station 19 is in any danger in the near future — instead, we think that ABC just wants to keep as many good shows as possible for the near future. A Million Little Things was forced into a tough timeslot in the fall and this is something in order to shake things up.

When Station 19 does return, the obvious challenge for the show is going to be finding a way to keep some of the momentum that it had — especially when you think for a moment about the cliffhanger at the end of the fall finale. It’s probably fair to assume that most major characters are safe, largely because you would’ve heard about it otherwise on Grey’s Anatomy itself. What we mostly wonder is this: Is this something that Station 19 had any foresight on, or did we end up seeing this get sprung on them by ABC? We’re largely curious as to whether or not this is something that they could have prepared for.

Rest assured, though, Station 19 does have a full 22-episode order — with that in mind, there are going to be opportunities to see a great deal of the story when it does end up coming back on the air. There’s a not to look forward to and with that, a lot to be very much excited and/or nervous about. This is a show that is, of course, designed to make you feel a wide array of ways.
