Game of Thrones season 8: Kit Harington on ‘grief’ over series ending
There may be some grief that comes with Game of Thrones ending that’s completely unrelated to what happens within the context of the story itself. Instead, it could just be tied more to the prevailing emotions that come with being a fan in the first place and having that aforementioned experience. That’s something that Kit Harington relates to as someone who was a part of this experience for it’s entire run, and that is something he describes further in a new BBC radio interview:
“It’s like when you finish a book, you’re not happy it’s over are you? You don’t finish a good book and say, ‘I’m happy I finished that.’ … But you have this grief that it’s over, and it’s exactly same with nine years doing this show. No matter how it ended, or how it does end, there’s always this bit of you that’s like, ‘oh’; there’s this loss around it.”
Harington has said that he has no interest in ever playing Jon Snow again, and we think that these emotions are such an enormous part of that. If he’s already gone through the grieving process of saying goodbye to this person, this enormous part of his life, it’s hard to immerse yourself once more in that character. Eventually, you’re going to want to do something different and move on and make other memories for yourself as well as for us the fans.
We have a hard time thinking that Kit will ever take Jon Snow for granted — this is the part that started it all for him, and it is also one that many fans will always remember him for no matter what he does with the remainder of his career (that often happens with iconic television characters).
