Is KJ Apa leaving Riverdale following season 3 winter premiere shocker?
We’ll admit that following tonight’s episode, it definitely makes sense to think that. Even though it seems like Archie’s name has been cleared thanks to Veronica, he was still found bloody by two rangers at the end of the episode. Judging from the way in which the rangers looked at each other, there’s a good reason to think that the guy could actually be dead.
Yet, at the same time it feels a little bit too easy to say that the guy is gone. Also, this show is based on Archie Comics! It’s in the comics’ own name! It’s just so hard to imagine Riverdale moving forward in any way without the guy who is the basis for much of the story.
Beyond all of that, there is some actual evidence that Apa isn’t leaving the show. For starters, we’ve seen footage of him in promos that haven’t been on the show yet and unless those are deleted scenes, that’s a pretty big clue. Meanwhile, there have also been some storyline teases out there for some events we haven’t quite gotten to. With that, it’s easy to imagine that we’re going to be seeing a little bit more of Archie Andrews somehow.
Personally, we don’t even think the writers believe that most viewers will totally buy into a cliffhanger about Archie dying, mostly because it is something that feels so far and away from what we know Riverdale to be. Instead, we think the larger mystery is how the character survives. This is a really great writing challenge for the entire Riverdale staff, given that they have to figure out a way to resolve this story in a matter that makes some sense. We know that this show is technically in the same world as Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, but they have worked overtime here in order to give this show some element of realism.
Hopefully, there are going to be a few more surprises coming up … and the writers won’t make us wait all that long in order to learn the truth here. Given that Riverdale focuses so much on the Archie character, we imagine that there will be a little bit of resolution sooner rather than later.
