Death in Paradise season 8 episode 2 video: Meet Ruby Patterson; the zoo case
One of the new additions for this season is Officer Ruby Patterson, who has a rather large family legacy to live up to in Saint Marie! Yet, we cannot say that her first day on the job starts off altogether swimmingly. Based on the promo below, the character is a little extra (the show’s description, not ours) and she has way more enthusiasm for these cases that just about anyone else. She may also shoot someone with a tranquilizer dart by accident which is not a great start. She’s a little bit green, but it does seem like her heart is in the right place! One of the things that Death in Paradise does a great job at is bringing you fun characters and then an interesting environment for them to live and work in, and we certainly think we’re going to have that in this particular episode more so than any other.
As for the case at the heart of this episode, you’re going to have a chance to see the murder of a man responsible for running a local zoo — as for who would want to kill him, that’s what the characters have to piece together. A good bit of what makes this show so fun is that it does create scenarios in which there are multiple suspects and you have to figure out over time who may be responsible. It’s a complicated show that likes to throw a number of twists and turns your way, and we definitely think that this is something you’ll end up seeing here as well.
The only real obstacle that this episode faces is quite simply this: Trying to match the excellence of the premiere, which did a great job of not only reestablishing many of our familiar faces, but also presenting a great mystery that was genuinely hard to figure out until the very end. Even if you determined that it was the bus company owner who was responsible for the murder, it was still really hard to determine how he had the means to pull it off. This is when a show like Death in Paradise is really at its best.
