New Amsterdam episode 12 preview: Is the hospital near breaking point?
As you approach this episode, the #1 thing to remember here is that we’re not looking at New Amsterdam in the same way we’re accustomed to seeing it. This is a hospital is struggling to still find an identity for itself with Max in treatment and everyone trying to pick up a little bit of slack. Characters have more of a leadership role than they hay have expected and beyond that, there are also people trying to balance out what are some increasingly delicate relationships. You don’t want to step on any toes, but at the same time, you have to also make sure that patients find a way to survive.
Below, CarterMatt has the official New Amsterdam episode 12 synopsis with some more information as to what lies ahead:
01/22/2019 (10:01PM – 11:00PM) (Tuesday) : Tensions are high in the hospital as Bloom (Janet Montgomery) is overruled on a diagnosis. Meanwhile, Iggy (Tyler Labine) notices that something may be amiss with one of the hospital’s most respected surgeons. Also starring Ryan Eggold as Dr. Max Goodwin, Freema Agyeman as Dr. Helen Sharpe, Janet Montgomery as Dr. Lauren Bloom, Anupam Kher as Dr. Vijay Kapoor, Tyler Labine as Dr. Iggy Frome and Jocko Sims as Dr. Floyd Reynolds. Guest starring Lisa O’Hare as Georgia Goodwin TV-14.
Just in reading that alone, it’s clear that there will be some differences of opinion. Dr. Bloom is not going to take having her opinion silenced particularly well. Meanwhile, we’ve also got a feeling that not everyone may appreciate Iggy’s observations about a surgeon, either. Everyone wants to do their own thing without a whole lot of oversight — they grew to be okay with it with Max, mostly because he proved himself to be friend rather than foe. It could ultimately show itself to be rather difficult with almost anyone else in this position.
Do we think that New Amsterdam will ever become something similar to what it was in the first batch of episodes this season? On some level sure … but it probably won’t ever be the same exact show again and nobody should really want that. A big part of what makes any TV series exciting is the evolution from start to finish — the more that we can see a series like New Amsterdam do that, the better off all of us are going to be as viewers in the end.
