For starters, could this be the episode where Shaun and Lea start to have more of a clearer understanding about their relationship and where they actually stand? We certainly think at this point that this would be helpful for the two of them. For Lea, it could benefit her to create a clearer image of things for Shaun. Meanwhile, for Shaun, he probably needs to realize one way or another how she really feels about him and whatever she wants for their future. That’s what made the conversation between Dr. Glassman and Lea on Monday night’s episode so harsh — he is worried about the ramifications of Shaun having hope that something could work between the two of them. If this is a hopeless relationship for him, it’s probably better off that the truth comes out … but we also don’t think that it fully is. There are just a number of hoops that need to be jumped through first.

Dr. Shaun Murphy, Dr. Morgan Reznick and Dr. Audrey Lim treat a woman with autism and a delicate brain condition while navigating the complicated relationship she has with her roommate, who is also on the spectrum. Meanwhile, Lea and Shaun are still figuring out their friendship and roommate status.
We certainly think that it is intentional that this case has so many parallels between what is going on with Shaun and Lea — after all, this medical case could lead to Shaun thinking a little bit more about his home situation and how he wants to navigate that. Given how important Shaun’s life outside the hospital is to his overall well-being, it does make sense for this to be a good time to explore it further. We just how that this episode does live up to our current expectations and also gets the ball rolling for even more interesting stuff featuring him down the line.
