Critics’ Choice Awards 2019 results: The Americans, Bill Hader, BoJack Horseman among winners

Critics -

Tonight, the Critics’ Choice Awards were broadcast on the CW and, overall, the results were … even more predictable than we expected?

While we do think that critics got it right on a number of different categories, it is still hard to deny that most of these victories tonight are ones that you could’ve seen coming a mile away. This is a big part of what’s interesting when it comes to the Peak TV era at the moment — for all of the different options that are out there, it feels more and more like the same shows dominant the narrative and awards shows as a whole.

With all of that spelled out, let’s get to sharing the results from some of the TV-specific categories on the night below.

Drama Series – The Americans.

Actor, Drama Series – Matthew Rhys, The Americans.

Actress, Drama Series – Sandra Oh, Killing Eve.

Supporting Actor, Drama Series – Noah Emmerich, The Americans.

Supporting Actress, Drama Series – Thandie Newton, Westworld.

Comedy Series – The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

Actor, Comedy Series – Bill Hader, Barry.

Actress, Comedy Series – Rachel Brosnahan, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

Supporting Actor, Comedy Series – Henry Winkler, Barry.

Supporting Actress, Comedy Series – Alex Borstein, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

Limited Series – The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.

Movie – Jesus Christ Superstar.

Actor, Limited Series / Movie – Darren Criss, The Assassination of Gianni Versace.

Actress, Limited Series / Movie – Patricia Arquette, Escape at Dannemora, and Amy Adams, Sharp Objects. (This is the rare occasion in which there are two winners — a tie! Probably the biggest surprise of the entire night.)

Supporting Actor, Limited Series / Movie – Ben Whishaw, A Very English Scandal.

Supporting Actress, Limited Series / Movie – Patricia Clarkson, Sharp Objects.

Animated Series – BoJack Horseman.

Here’s the crazy thing about some of these winners — we’re not sure that there is a single upset within the entirety of the mix. Maybe we would’ve called The Americans more of an upset if it was a different awards show.
