Criminal Minds season 15 to have time jump, significant Big Bad

Criminal Minds season 13

If you have not heard the news as of yet, it’s official: Criminal Minds season 15 will be the final one for the CBS show. It’s still a bittersweet thing to swallow, but in the end, it’s easy to be grateful for the past decade and a half. It’s been an incredible run and we’ll miss the BAU; yet, at least they are getting a chance to go out on their own terms.

So what are we going to see before we get to that point? For starters, show boss Erica Messer tells TVLine that there is going to be a wedding between David Rossi and Krystall — which means we’re going to have a little bit of romance! There is also going to be a major villain you meet before the end of this season, and they are someone who could be a huge, final baddie throughout much of the show’s ten-episode send-off premiering during the 2019-20 season.

In speaking a little about this villain in relation to Rossi, here is what Messer had to say to the website:

“As Rossi says, ‘He’s younger, faster and stronger’ [than him] … He’s a bit his Joker … But as [fiancee] Krystall reminds him, the one thing that UnSub isn’t is smarter than David Rossi. He’s a worthy adversary because he does have a lot of things on his side, including being a truly twisted individual.”

The idea for the final season is for it to apparently be a little bit more serialized, which means that there will be an opportunity to see a wide array of emotions — in addition to some sort of time jump leading into it. Given that the CBS series is so procedural much of the time, it does feel as though it needs something like this to bring the show all the more attention. You want to end with the biggest bang possible, and it seems like this final villain could provide that.

To go along with this Big Bad, though, we do hope that the series continues to emphasize some of the individual, personal stories that we’ve had with these characters for the better part of season 14. That’s one of the reasons why it was one of the best seasons in quite some time.
