Ratings: The Masked Singer stays strong; Criminal Minds rises

The Masked Singer

For anyone out there wondering if Fox’s The Masked Singer could keep its positive momentum going, we come bearing great news.

For its second episode, the entertaining reality series ended up drawing a 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and slightly more than 7 million viewers. While these are hefty drops from the show’s premiere numbers, it still makes this easily the top-rated show of the week so far and it proves that there may be a little bit of staying power with this show … though we’re still a reasonably good amount of time from saying this with confidence.

Where things are going to get interesting for The Masked Singer moving forward are when it starts to actually air after you’ve seen the initial performances. Can it keep some of the hype that is out there, especially once everyone starts to figure out who these people are? (Clear piece of advice for season 2 — make the reveals a little bit more difficult since these ones were so easy and it almost makes the judges look silly.)

As for some other important ratings news…

For those of you who like Criminal Minds, we come bearing some good news — the series is up once more in the numbers! Wednesday’s episode generated a 0.8 rating and while that doesn’t make us confident about a renewal, it doesn’t make us necessarily think that a cancellation is coming, either. At the moment, we feel like the show is giving itself the best chance that it can, but the show’s future could be dictated heavily by some of the cancellations that CBS makes elsewhere. There are other shows like Madam Secretary and SWAT that have their own ratings challenges, and then you’ve got one in Bull that has some troubles away from the camera.

CBS will make a decision on most of their shows a little bit later in the spring.

Meanwhile, over on NBC Chicago Fire and Chicago Med each returned with a 1.3 rating, while for some reason Chicago PD posted a slightly-lower rating than either of them with a 1.0 rating. It did still manage to win the 10:00 p.m. Eastern hour, though.
