The Conners episode 10 preview: Darlene tests Mark and more

Let’s talk about The Conners for a moment in relation to pressure because in theory, you wouldn’t think that there would be all that much for the show, all things considered. It’s just a lighthearted comedy! Yet, there has always been more personal stuff at the core of the series and that is not changing in the slightest now that it is in this spin-off form. As a matter of fact, we feel like there’s even more pressure for investment than ever before without Roseanne since there needs to be more ways in which to hook viewers in. With there only being eleven episodes this season, we think that the writers have to cram in 22 episodes’ worth of character development in half the time. That’s why we are seeing the Becky story advance at a fairly-rapid pace while you’re also going to see Darlene and Emilio do what they can to further along their own stories. There’s not a lot of room for stalling.

When Ben offers Mark free piano lessons, Darlene finds this as an opportunity to test his parenting skills. Meanwhile, Jackie throws Becky a baby shower, and Emilio continues his efforts to be part of the baby’s life.

In some ways, the pace of The Conners may actually be more indicative of real life than a lot of other sitcoms out there. After all, how often are there real-life conflicts and situations that move along at a snail’s pace? It not all that often, and if there’s a problem people try their best to find a way in which to resolve it. This episode could offer some of that — or at least leave characters thinking more about the future. Whatever is left up in the air here can be brought up again in the finale, which could in turn be carried over to a second season of the show.
