From the start, there is a pretty good reason to be excited for Criminal Minds season 14 episode 13 — AJ Cook is the director! What’s not to like about that? It’s a chance for a longtime cast member to get a little bit of limelight, and to also work specifically on a story featuring someone in Joe Mantegna who she’s had a wonderful relationship with over the years.

“Chameleon” is going to be airing on January 23 and, at the center of it, is going to be a big David Rossi story. It’s also going to serve as a nice reminder that despite the years of experience and history being great at his job, this is still someone capable of vulnerability. This is not someone who is going to feel as though they are making the right decision all of the time. There will be something that happens within this episode that causes Rossi to doubt himself and he’s going to need some help overcoming that and seeing the other side. It’s a chance for a good performance from him, and maybe in the process some interesting material for him and Krystall both. After all, she is returning yet again for this episode!
Below, CarterMatt has the official Criminal Minds season 14 episode 13 synopsis with some other news regarding what lies ahead:
“Chameleon” – Rossi questions his actions in the aftermath of a near-death struggle with a serial killer who appears to have outsmarted the BAU, on CRIMINAL MINDS, Wednesday, Jan. 23 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Gail O’Grady returns as Krystall, Rossi’s girlfriend.
Now, the bad news
This is your unfortunate reminder that we are fairly close to the end of the road for the season — to be specific, there are just two episodes coming after this one. We hope that this isn’t the end of the series, but much of that is going to be based on viewership as we continue to move forward through the rest of the year. Keep that in mind as you contemplate some of your programming decisions coming up!
If this does turn out to be the final season, we are at least thrilled that Cook had a chance to step behind the camera for an episode. If it’s renewed, maybe she can come back and do so again!
