For those of you wanting some long-awaited Homeland season 8 news, we at least have a better sense of the show’s setting.
According to a new report via TVLine, the Showtime drama is going to head to Morocco in order to film the final batch of episodes, with the location serving as a stand-in for Afghanistan. This isn’t the first time that Homeland has used another country as a stand-in for a Middle East country, which is done for logistical and safety reasons. Morocco already has a history with the series, as it has been used on a number of occasions. It has also been used a filming location for Game of Thrones and other shows. The appeal here is that it can be used for a diverse number of environments — it has Mediterranean locations, but it can also replicate deserts and also cityscapes.
The setting for Homeland is important because it does signify that for its final season, we will be seeing Claire Danes’ Carrie taking on terror where it often does originate in terms of the United States. This is a huge component to what makes this show what it is, with many earlier seasons being set almost exclusively in the Middle East or other countries. Of course, more recently we saw the show move stateside to New York and then the Washington DC area; the reality here is that if you’re a show like Homeland, you do have to be prepared to move around on a fairly regular basis. It’s just a part of the fabric of a job like Carrie’s.
The bad news if you love Homeland is that it’s still going to be a long wait to actually see this final season. We’ll be lucky to see new episodes before the end of the year and personally, we’re fine with waiting. Given that this is one of the most-important series in the history of Showtime as a network, there’s no reason for them to rush it along. The most important thing at the moment is just that we get a fascinating batch of episodes with some quality twists and turns at the center of it. This is a show that deserves to go out with a bang, especially since when Homeland is great, it is one of the best shows on all television and by a pretty-wide margin.
