According to a new report from SpoilerTV, “Help, I’m Alive!” is the title for this particular episode … which seems like the perfect title for a show that could often feature a number of different life-or-death questions. One of the biggest ones that we’ve got is who could be saying this, especially if we are talking about one of the show’s major characters. Haven’t some of these people been through enough already?

To us, the most obvious literal meaning of the title is something along these lines: Someone makes a desperate plea for help after they arrive in a situation where the general assumption would be that they’re dead. They have to buck assumption in making that sort of cry for help.

Now that we’ve said that, since when are all Grey’s Anatomy episode titles are meant to be taken literally? There are many different occasions where it feels appropriate in order to ascribe a more metaphorical meaning to some of the titles and we’d understand that. For this one, you could specifically say that it is someone crying for help in terms of their existence, or in hopes of some sort of recognition that they are not getting otherwise. This is an opportunity to show themselves to the world perhaps in a grander way than they would otherwise.

As for the song itself…

“Help, I’m Alive!” is a song by the band Metric; we wouldn’t take too much from the lyrics of the song in terms of deciphering the story. Sometimes, there is an explicit connection between the episode and a song’s lyrics — but it is not always intentional. Song titles are just the canvas on which Grey’s Anatomy likes to work; they still want to use that canvas in order to pain their own picture.

Be prepared for all sorts of episodes to air throughout the winter and spring. There are still so many different stories that the ABC series has to tell, and we are excited to get into so many of those!
