Criminal Minds season 14 episode 12 preview: A creepy pied piper

Criminal Minds

Criminal Minds season 14 episode 12 may, on the surface, feel like many other cases that we have seen the BAU tackle over the years. After all, at the center of it will be a series of creepy disappearances as, unsurprisingly, some not-so-kind UnSub ready to cause all sorts of chaos and destruction.

Yet, there is also something a little bit deeper here with “Hamelin.” After all, this installment may be giving you the show’s version of an evil pied piper, someone who is luring children out of their homes. There isn’t a whole lot of information that the BAU has to suggest that they were forcibly taken from their homes; we’ve got more evidence of that in a sneak preview that was mistakenly put on the internet a little bit early.

So why are we throwing out the pied piper reference specifically? We’re not talking about Silicon Valley here. Instead, “Hamelin” is tied in some ways to the original story of the character; it is a town in Lower Saxony, Germany, and it also just so happens to be the setting of the famed pied piper story. We don’t think that this title was chosen here by coincidence.

For a little more information on what’s coming, check out the full Criminal Minds season 14 episode 12 synopsis that CarterMatt has for you below:

“Hamelin” – Prentiss and The BAU team fly to Iowa to investigate the disappearance of three 10-year-old children who appear to have been abducted from their homes in the middle of the night, with surveillance video from a neighborhood park as their only lead to finding the children’s whereabouts, on CRIMINAL MINDS, Wednesday, Jan. 9(10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

What else do we know?

This episode will have some sort of personal storyline for JJ, as Candy Clark will be coming back in a reprisal of her role of Sandy Jureau. She’s appeared a handful of times over the series’ run and we know that AJ Cook’s character will be staying back rather than heading towards the site of the investigation.

We’ve said time and time again now that the abundance of personal stories is one of the reasons why Criminal Minds season 14 has been head and shoulders above some of the other recent ones that we’ve seen. If these remain at the forefront of many of the remaining episodes we’re going to be very much happy by the time we get to the finale.
