New Amsterdam episode 11 spoilers: Max’s treatment; Floyd’s past

New Amsterdam episode 11 is the second episode of the new year to air on NBC, and when you get a chance to see it come January 15 you’re going to see a lot of content packed into a reasonably-short period of time.

We should start here with more of the aftermath to the fall finale — the good news is that Max Goodwin manages to survive to make it to this point, not that this should really be all that much of a surprise to anyone. Did you really think that New Amsterdam would kill off its main character halfway through the first season? We don’t think the show’s really about him potentially dying; instead, it’s more about what he does to try and survive and whether or not he can keep both himself and the hospital afloat at the same time.

Luckily, we do get a sense that episode 11 is going to offer up an opportunityto see just that, while also getting a chance to see a big story for Floyd Reynolds in the process. As we move through the rem

01/15/2019 (10:01PM – 11:00PM) (Tuesday) : As Max (Ryan Eggold) begins his treatment, he realizes that it may slow him down faster than he originally thought. Meanwhile, Reynolds (Jocko Sims) must deal with an incident from his past when a reporter comes to the hospital and Sharpe (Freema Agyeman) and Bloom (Janet Montgomery) continue a contentious conversation. Also starring Tyler Labine as Dr. Iggy Frome and Anupam Kher as Dr. Vijay Kapoor. Guest starring Lisa O’Hare as Georgia and Margot Bingham as Evie.

The thing that’s going to make New Amsterdam so interesting in the new year is how it paces itself. At the moment, it should be clear to most everyone on the series that they’ve got a great story and some interesting characters. What they need to figure out is how to use them and when to emphasize certain people and how to focus on Max’s recovery. If they can spread things out without making the story drag, this could be one of the strongest overall dramas in the new year.
