Shameless season 9 spoilers: Will Fiona find a way to fix her life?

Fiona -

Shameless season 9 is going to return with new episodes come Sunday, January 20, and at the center of it is certainly going to be Fiona Gallagher. There is a good reason for that, given that the end of the first part of the season featured her completely falling apart. Ford betrayed her, her job fell apart, and now she’s off the wagon and living back at home. She’s basically forcing Debbie of all people to now be the responsible Gallagher and we’re not altogether sure we saw this coming.

Yet, some of the episodes coming up could feature Fiona getting on the straight and narrow again. If there’s any hope for her to have a happy (or happy-ish) ending, she’s going to need to move quickly. Remember that Emmy Rossum is leaving at the end of the season!

We recently shared some of the first details on the upcoming January 20 episode; now, we’ve got some information on the two episodes that follow!

Season 9 episode 9, January 27 – “Frank searches for ways to finance Ingrid’s vision for their future together. Fiona’s anger issues cause problems at Patsy’s. Lip is forced to confront his real feelings for Tami. Kelly’s father attempts to get in the middle of her relationship with Carl. Kev and V realize they are in over their heads with their latest fostering endeavor.”

Season 9 episode 10, February 10 (via SpoilerTV) – “Frank meets his match in a fellow participant in the Hobo Loco competition. Fiona has a dark encounter at Patsy’s that scares her into cleaning up her act. Debbie throws herself into home improvements as she gets closer with Kelly. Carl gets a job that is more dangerous than it looks. Lip sees another side of Tami when they spend the day together.”

Why the long wait between these two episodes? Well, clearly Showtime does not want to air a new episode opposite a Super Bowl. This suggests that A) they care about live ratings to a certain extent and B) they realize that the show will just be lost in the shuffle then.

Based on some of the episode 10 details, it seems like that’s going to be the point where Fiona starts to turn her life around. That means that there could be four episodes coming after the fact in order to better set up whatever the endgame will be.
