The Punisher season 2 premiere date leaked; see new teaser

Punisher spoilers

Want to know when The Punisher season 2 premiere date is likely going to be? Well, Netflix may have slipped up on the reveal!

Earlier today, the streaming service’s account for North Africa / the Middle East shared that the show is going to be coming back on the air on January 18 with new episodes — we’re not 100% confirming this just yet because Netflix in America hasn’t made it official. Yet, we do think that this is a pretty strong indicator that this is when you can expect the new episodes to arrive.

Netflix did today officially unveil a new teaser for what lies ahead alongside Marvel; it looks intense, but we don’t exactly think we needed to hype that us with this show. At the end of it, the teaser just says “coming soon” as opposed to revealing any sort of actual premiere date. Most of the finer details about this season are still under wraps, though hopefully, that will change over the next week if we are going to get more episodes in just over two weeks.

Ready to dive now into the elephant in the room? Well, here we go…

Is The Punisher going to be canceled after this season?

It’s impossible to cover a Marvel – Netflix series these days without this question hovering over you to a certain extent — and for good reason. The streaming service in 2018 officially canceled Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist within a matter of just a couple of months.

Now, we don’t want to kick off the new year by being aggressively negative, but the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and anticipating some sort of different result on the other side of it. It’s hard to really imagine that we’re going to get more of The Punisher beyond this season due to whatever sort of complicated feelings are there between Disney (who owns Marvel) and Netflix. We’re equally worried about the future of another streaming property in Jessica Jones, which for a while was actually the most critically-acclaimed of all of the shows. (It had some missteps during the second season.)

If Netflix was willing to end Daredevil, which seemingly was the most notable of the shows that they had within the superhero universe, it doesn’t really bode well for any of the other ones. We’ll still hold out a sliver of hope for some good news, but it’s hard to really hold our breath for anything.
