Tonight during New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, we had a chance to see a new American Idol season 17 trailer, one that delivered much of what we could hope for. This is a show that is mostly about the contestants first and foremost, and this new preview opted to not shy away from that.
So what did you get a chance to see? Think in terms of heartfelt stories, big performances, and also praise from some of the judges. Katy Perry, Lionel Ritchie, and Luke Bryan are all returning to the panel this season after generating mostly-good buzz earlier in the spring, and they’ve now had even more time to build up their chemistry. They seem to recognize that the show isn’t really about them, and instead, they can hand some of the reigns over to the real stars in the room: The people looking for their big break. There are only so many opportunities that they have in order to get it!
We haven’t been able to find the specific trailer that aired tonight, you can see another recent one below via ABC. It captures most of the same tone. It’s all about where stars come from, and much of that is humble beginnings. These aren’t people who necessarily have much other than a dream and desire to make it big, and that’s what this show is focusing on a little bit more than anything else. It’s big, fun, and inspiring in that way. We just hope that this new season has a chance to be even bigger, while not losing some of the personality of what we saw last time.
New episodes of American Idol are going to start airing on ABC on Sunday, March 3, and they will air from there on Sundays and Mondays for several weeks that follow. The network is certainly going to be giving the singing show plenty of opportunity to shine, so we really do hope that there is an opportunity to deliver some good ratings and keep it on the air for some time. It’s not the runaway smash hit that it used to be anymore, but we definitely do think that it can still prove to be quite entertaining.
